From June 22–27, Asia Simulation Federation (ASIASIM) Secretary-General Mr. Weng Jingnong led a delegation to Malaysia and Thailand, accompanied by Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Yang Xiaohui and Secretariat members. The visit aimed to engage member institutions and partners, promote simulation science across Asia, and advance regional cooperation.
Trip to Malaysia: Expanding Academic Networks and Collaborative Projects
On June 23, the delegation visited the Malaysian Simulation Society (MSS) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), welcomed by MSS President Professor Zahar. Discussions covered the August visit of the first five Malaysian scholars to ASIASIM’s 15-day Summer School in Hangzhou, the joint launch of a proposed Asia Student Robotics Competition, covering its agenda, subject setting, the executive software and awards setting. MSS’s participation in 2025 GloSim and CAST Forum was also confirmed in the meeting. Professor Zahar also recommended new institutional members, including leading universities such as Unversiti Malaya (UM) and UTM, and tech firms, to further ASIASIM’s reach in Southeast Asia.
Later that day, the delegation met with faculty at UM, engaging in technical discussions on the latest updates of MBSE-focused modeling simulation languages “X language” and network confrontation simulation with the deputy dean of UM Computer Science & Information Technology, Professor Madya Dr. Saaidal Razalli Bin Azzuhri, Dr.SIMYING ONG and Prof. Madya Dr. Amirrudin Kamsin.
Trip to Thailand: Building International Platforms and Cross-Sectoral Cooperation
On June 25, the delegation visited Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), where they were welcomed by Dean Professor Santi and faculty members. Discussions led to agreements on GloSim 2025 and the ASIASIM Summer School, and co-establishment of an ASEAN-China simulation education collaboration platform. The Thai representatives on the meeting were Prof. Dr. Santi Maensiri, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayut Limpirat, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khanchai Khosonthongkee, Dr. Sukrit Suksombat, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sineenat Siri, Asst. Prof. Dr.Benjawan Rodjanadid, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tapany Patcharawit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chantira Chiaranai, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sunitiya Thuannadee and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nara Samattapapong.
The delegation also visited the Intelligent System Simulation Laboratory and the Advanced Manufacturing Simulation Center at SUT. Research achievements such as nano-materials, laser imaging and image processing as well as IoT-driven manufacturing simulation platform are included in this laboratory visit.
On June 26, the delegation visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), where they were hosted by Vice President Dr. Dibesh Khadka and Executive Director of Office of International and Public Affairs Mr. Shawn P. Kelly and OIPA Head of Emerging Markets International Cooperation Ms. Danielle Duan. Both sides discussed the potential cooperation in the future.
Accompanied by Ms. Danielle, the delegation visited the AI and Simulation Lab and the Hydraulics Simulation Lab at AIT. AIT staff presented their independently developed regional hydrological and meteorological numerical simulation system, physical verification platforms, and next-generation Geographical Information System. They also showcased applications in agriculture and smart city management using remote sensing and big data analytics, then both sides discussed the real-world application of data sciences in forecasting and alarming climate disasters and the potential co-establishment of the “Asia Climate Simulation Data Center.”
Achievements: Strengthening Regional Coordination and Empowering Technological Innovation
This trip to Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore marked a key stage in ASIASIM’s 2025–2027 International Collaborative Innovation Action Plan on Intelligent Simulation. The delegation reached consensus with member institutions and partners on council annual affairs, GloSim 2025 preparation, and project cooperation. Major outcomes included the construction of a Southeast Asia simulation academic network, launch of joint R&D initiatives between universities and enterprises, and establishment of a regional cooperation system integrating conferences, talent development, and platform building. The implementation of the above-mentioned collaborations indicated the new achievements of ASIASIM in multilateral synergy in Asia, vitalizing the win-win cooperation of promoting and innovating simulation science and technology.
During the visit, the delegation also called on the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and held talks with Science Counselor Ma Minggeng and Education Counselor Xu Lan, exchanging views on ASIASIM, and future scientific and educational cooperation between Beihang and institutions in Thailand.
