The ASIASIM 2025 International Summer School brought together 17 experts and scholars from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and Italy, forming a strong international faculty team that offered students interdisciplinary and multi-field courses and presentations. After a successful first week, participants from 13 countries around the world gathered in Hangzhou, gaining knowledge and growth through professional courses, enterprise visits, and cultural experiences. The diverse backgrounds of the participants and the international faculty made classroom discussions more dynamic and brought fresh vitality to cross-cultural interaction.

Academic Study and Visits

Over the past week, participants attended sessions covering a wide range of topics, including the fundamentals of modeling and simulation, 3D reconstruction and visualization of cultural heritage, human-computer interaction, intelligent transportation, digital industrial innovation, and agent-based simulation methods. They also gained an in-depth understanding of the application of engineering simulation software in fluid and structural analysis. Closely aligned with the frontiers of the discipline, these courses strengthened participants’ theoretical foundations and inspired interdisciplinary thinking.

In addition, participants visited the Artificial Intelligence Town in Yuhang District, where they toured Hangzhou Virtual Reality Technology Co., Ltd. and Pimax Technology Co., Ltd. The former showcased virtual-reality haptic perception and feedback solutions, while the latter is known for its high-resolution head-mounted displays. The visit gave participants a direct understanding of the latest developments in the virtual-reality industry.

Cultural Learning and Practice

In addition to academic study and industry visits, the summer school also placed strong emphasis on cultural exchange and hands-on experience.

Mung Bean Cakes

This week, participants made mung bean cakes bearing the ASIASIM logo pattern by hand. From soaking and grinding the beans to shaping the cakes, they experienced the pleasure of making a traditional Chinese dessert and enjoyed the taste of their own creations. This unique pastry not only embodies the Chinese culinary idea of elegance and health, but also reflects ASIASIM’s spirit of innovation, collaboration, and precision, skillfully integrating cultural experience with the program’s theme.

Brush Calligraphy

During the brush calligraphy session, participants picked up writing brushes and tried writing Chinese characters. Although their strokes were still unfamiliar, they experienced the strength and beauty of Eastern writing through each brushstroke.

Paper-Cutting Art

The Chinese paper-cutting experience amazed participants with the ingenuity and artistry behind a simple sheet of paper. Under the guidance of the instructor, they cut out auspicious patterns by hand and felt the wisdom of Chinese folk art in using simplicity to express complexity.

Visit to the Liangzhu Museum

Participants also visited the Liangzhu Museum, where they experienced the 5,000-year historical depth of Chinese civilization up close. Through explanations of jade artifacts and archaeological sites, they gained a deeper appreciation of the long and rich heritage of Chinese culture, adding a historical dimension to cross-cultural exchange.

As the second week begins, the summer school will continue its journey through academic learning and cultural experience. Participants will gain more knowledge in the field of simulation and build deeper friendships through multicultural exchange. We look forward to witnessing more moments of intellectual exchange and personal growth in the days ahead.
