Academician Wang Zili Delivering an Address at the Inaugural Assembly of the Asia Simulation Federation
Academician Wang Zili is the first academician in China in the field of reliability systems engineering. He also serves as Director of the National Key Laboratory of Reliability and Environmental Engineering Technology. Over decades of dedication to theoretical research in reliability systems engineering and to the management of major engineering projects, he has addressed a long-standing core challenge in China’s equipment manufacturing sector—the disconnect between performance and reliability—effectively equipping major national engineering systems with “reliable wings.” His primary research areas include quality engineering, reliability systems engineering, intelligent fault diagnosis and prognostics, digital twins, and health management. He has established an integrated theory of reliability, which has been successfully applied to multiple major engineering programs. This work has overcome the long-standing technical bottleneck between functional performance design and reliability design, significantly advancing innovations in quality-oriented design and forging a distinctive development path for China’s reliability systems engineering—from technology introduction and absorption to integrated innovation.
On December 21, 2024, Academician Wang Zili, representing the China Simulation Federation, joined more than 300 distinguished guests at the Hangzhou International Innovation Institute of Beihang University to witness the official establishment of the Asia Simulation Federation. In his address at the founding ceremony, Academician Wang emphasized the critical role of simulation technology in driving scientific and technological innovation as well as industrial upgrading. He expressed strong support and high expectations for ASIASIM, calling on experts, research institutions, and enterprises worldwide to work together to advance simulation technologies, promote industrial progress, and foster a healthy and sustainable global simulation ecosystem.
From September 19 to 22, 2025, the 2025 Global Simulation Conference, hosted by ASIASIM, was held at the Beihang International Campus in Hangzhou. During the conference, the ASIASIM Advisory Committee was formally established, and Academician Wang Zili was appointed as Chair of the Advisory Committee.

The title of ASIASIM Fellow is the highest level of membership conferred by the federation. It recognizes individuals who have made outstanding and sustained contributions to simulation science, technology, education, and industrial applications. Election as an ASIASIM Fellow also represents a consensus recognition by the Asian simulation community. Academician Wang’s election marks a further enhancement of China’s international academic influence in the field of simulation and underscores the nation’s transition from a participant in international rule-making to a shaper and leader in the global simulation landscape.
