ASIASIM 2026 Digital-Intelligent Simulation International Collaborative Innovation and Industry Empowerment Program
From July 14 to 15, the ASIASIM Youth Exchange Special Session was successfully held in Hangzhou as part of the Asian Simulation Federation Summer School.
Centered on the theme of “Simulation, AI, and Future Innovation”, the program brought together young researchers and talents from the fields of simulation, artificial intelligence, digital twins, and complex systems. It provided an important platform for young professionals to exchange ideas, showcase research achievements, and explore potential collaborations.

Chapter One
Research Sharing:
Exploring the Endless Possibilities of Simulation Through Practice
This session featured three young PhD researchers as keynote speakers. As important contributors to the organization and exchange of the program, they actively participated in event planning, on-site moderation, and academic presentations, demonstrating the organizational capabilities and enthusiasm for scholarly communication among young researchers in an international exchange setting.
The course focused on exchanges around themes including “Simulation Stories Around Us”, “Fun Simulation Research Experiments”, and “AI-Driven Simulation”. Drawing from their own research experiences, the young scholars shared their perspectives on the concept of “Simulation for Everything” and explored innovative simulation practices from different angles. By connecting academic research with real-world application scenarios, they helped participants from diverse backgrounds gain a deeper understanding of the value and potential of simulation.
PhD student from Beihang University, Yuqin Zeng, shared insights on the theme of “Simulators, Games, and the World”. From practical applications such as chip design and aircraft testing to emerging fields including world models and embodied intelligence training, he demonstrated the broad value of simulation technology from fundamental research to industrial applications. By highlighting how world models contribute to advancements in autonomous driving and how the game Turing Complete supports learning about computer systems, he illustrated how simulation enables humans to understand complex systems and explore unknown scenarios.
PhD student from Beihang University, Junfan Zhang, shared insights on the theme of “Simulation Cases Around Us.” Starting from everyday scenarios such as weather forecasting, urban transportation, engineering design, and video games, he introduced how simulation transforms real-world problems into computable models through engaging experiments, including estimating π through random sampling. He further discussed the relationship between parameter settings, computational resources, and simulation accuracy, emphasizing the importance of appropriate modeling. He pointed out that, compared with simply increasing computational capacity, accurate problem abstraction and effective model design can often improve simulation efficiency more effectively.
PhD student from Harbin Institute of Technology, Xu Wen, shared insights on robot simulation and testing. He introduced tools including ROS, Gazebo, and Rosbag used in Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) research. Starting from the spatial perception requirements of robots, he explained how simulation environments enable researchers to validate algorithms and test systems before real-world deployment. Among these tools, Gazebo can create virtual environments with physical properties such as gravity, friction, and collision, allowing robots to conduct complex scenario testing under low-risk conditions. Rosbag enables “record once, validate repeatedly” by recording visual and LiDAR data from real environments, improving experimental efficiency and research reliability. Through practical examples, he demonstrated how simulation technology bridges virtual testing and real-world applications, providing essential support for robotic system development.

Thought Exchange:
Sparking Interdisciplinary Innovation
Beyond the thematic presentations, the Youth Exchange Special Session placed greater emphasis on open discussion and interaction, creating opportunities for participants to exchange perspectives and share ideas. More than 40 young students from different countries and research backgrounds engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including the development trends of simulation technology, innovative approaches to AI-powered simulation, and future application scenarios.


Communication
During the exchange, young researchers not only shared their scientific achievements but also engaged in in-depth discussions on their research practices, reflections, and explorations. Participants noted that although cutting-edge fields such as digital twins, energy supply chains, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems, social simulation, and the industrial metaverse focus on different research subjects, they all demonstrate the important role of simulation in complex system analysis, scientific prediction, and real-world decision-making. Through interdisciplinary learning and communication, young researchers further recognized that simulation requires more than model construction and algorithm design. It also requires the integration of domain knowledge, the development of effective analytical frameworks based on practical problems, and the close alignment of technological innovation with application needs.

Youth Growth:
Building Future Strength Through Exchange
Young talent is a vital force driving scientific and technological innovation. ASIASIM has long been committed to supporting the growth of young researchers by providing platforms for them to showcase achievements, broaden perspectives, and connect with international peers through initiatives such as international summer schools, youth exchange sessions, and academic forums. This Youth Exchange Special Session not only created opportunities for young students to communicate and collaborate, but also encouraged young PhD researchers to gradually grow from participants into organizers, presenters, and facilitators of academic exchange. Through this international academic environment, they further developed their research communication, organizational, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
In the future, ASIASIM will continue to focus on cultivating young talent, bringing together global innovation forces in the field of simulation, and encouraging more young researchers to exchange ideas, grow through collaboration, and contribute to the high-quality development of simulation technology.
