Introduction

From June 6 to 13, a delegation led by Professor Lin Zhang, President of ASIASIM, Professor Jingnong Weng, Secretary-General of ASIASIM, and Professor Xiao Song, Vice Secretary-General of ASIASIM, conducted an exchange visit to Thailand and Bangladesh. The visit was a key activity of the 2026 ASIASIM Digital-Intelligent Simulation International Collaboration and Industrial Empowerment Innovation Initiative. During the visit, the delegation engaged with representatives from academia and industry in both countries, introducing ASIASIM and its flagship programs, including the Global Simulation Conference (GloSim), International Summer School, and the International Journal of Modeling, Simulation, and Scientific Computing (IJMSSC). The visit aimed to enhance understanding of simulation technology, promote its broader application, expand ASIASIM’s international membership network, strengthen regional collaboration, and further enhance ASIASIM’s global influence.

01 Engaging with Thailand’s Industry–Academia–Research Community 

to Strengthen Collaboration Foundations

From June 6 to 9, the delegation visited Thailand, engaging with local universities, industry organizations, and leading technology enterprises to establish stronger connections between academic and industrial communities.

The delegation first visited Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) and held in-depth discussions with representatives from the Council of Scientific and Engineering Associations of Thailand (CSEA). As a national-level academic organization in Thailand, CSEA focuses on research areas including computational materials science and particle-fluid systems, maintaining close connections with industries such as simulation, textiles, and engineering. The two sides exchanged views on expanding membership networks, organizing academic activities, conducting research collaboration, and sharing resources. They reached a consensus on establishing long-term cooperation mechanisms and jointly promoting academic exchanges and collaborative initiatives.

The delegation then visited the Bangkok Innovation Cooperation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, located at Chulalongkorn University, for further exchanges. The two sides held in-depth discussions on international collaborative research and innovation, technology transfer and commercialization, the development of science and technology service platforms, and the expansion of international cooperation networks. They also exchanged views on strengthening resource sharing and collaboration opportunities. During the visit, the delegation toured the center’s research and office facilities to gain firsthand insights into its practices in promoting regional technological cooperation and innovation development. The experience provided valuable references for ASIASIM in expanding its international cooperation network and developing overseas technology service initiatives.

At Bangkok University (BU), the delegation held an academic exchange meeting with the university’s Vice President, Dean of the School of Information Technology, and faculty research teams. As Thailand’s first private higher education institution and currently the country’s largest private university by student enrollment, Bangkok University places strong emphasis on industry-oriented disciplines and distinctive educational development. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on digital-intelligent technologies, simulation applications, and talent development. They also exchanged views on ASIASIM membership development, cooperation network expansion, the International Summer School, and the Global Simulation Conference (GloSim). Both sides agreed to further strengthen communication, build mutual understanding, and lay a solid foundation for future collaboration and joint development. Following the meeting, the delegation visited the university’s specialized laboratories to gain firsthand insights into its research infrastructure and technological development initiatives.

During the Thailand visit, the delegation also made a special visit to the Thailand Railway Double-Track Development Project Office under China Railway Signal & Communication Research Institute (CRSC), an ASIASIM member organization, and held discussions with company representatives. The two sides exchanged views on the technology service needs of Chinese technology enterprises expanding overseas, industry collaboration models, and international market development. The delegation gained insights into the company’s local operational practices and experience in Thailand, providing valuable references for ASIASIM’s future development of overseas technology services and support for enterprises pursuing international growth.

02 Visiting Bangladesh to Expand a New Chapter 

of South Asian Cooperation

From June 10 to 13, the delegation conducted an intensive exchange visit to Bangladesh, visiting four leading local universities, academic organizations, and cultural exchange institutions. A series of exchange activities were successfully carried out during the visit.

During their stay in Bangladesh, the delegation visited four representative universities: the University of Dhaka (DU), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), North South University (NSU), and BRAC University (BRACU). The delegation held discussions with university presidents, vice presidents, deans of engineering schools, professors, and researchers. The two sides exchanged views on their respective institutional development, research priorities, and the application of digital-intelligent technologies and simulation. They also shared experiences and practical achievements in related fields. The exchanges further deepened mutual understanding and trust, creating favorable conditions for broader regional cooperation in the future.

At North South University (NSU), ASIASIM's President Professor Lin Zhang and Secretary-General Professor Jingnong Weng were invited to attend the thematic seminar titled “Simulation for Everything  — The Future of Digital Innovation” and deliver keynote academic presentations. The seminar was hosted by the Vice President of North South University and focused on cutting-edge simulation technologies and emerging trends in digital-intelligent innovation. More than 200 faculty members and students from approximately 10 universities attended the event. The seminar featured a strong academic atmosphere, with Bangladeshi faculty and students actively engaging in discussions and raising questions. Through exchanges between Chinese and international scholars, new perspectives and ideas were shared, further enhancing ASIASIM’s academic influence and visibility in South Asia.

In addition, the delegation was invited to attend the membership conference of the Bangladesh Society for Modeling and Simulation (BSMS), where they held discussions with the society’s leadership on industry development, member engagement, and joint academic activities, further promoting organizational cooperation between the two sides.The delegation also visited the University of Dhaka campus, two local Confucius Institutes, and Chinese research centers, as well as several laboratories and student research exhibitions at North South University. Through these visits, the delegation gained deeper insights into the current status of teaching and research development at Bangladeshi universities and identified key areas and implementation plans for future cooperation. 

During the visit to Bangladesh, the delegation also paid a special visit to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh and held discussions with Counsellor Shaopeng Li from the Cultural Affairs Office.

Conclusion

The Asia Simulation Federation (ASIASIM) was jointly initiated by simulation societies from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. As an international non-profit scientific and technological organization with independent legal status, ASIASIM stands alongside SCS and EUROSIM as one of the world’s three major simulation organizations. Based in Asia with a global outlook, ASIASIM currently includes more than 70 member organizations worldwide, covering universities, research institutions, and technology enterprises. Guided by the principles of openness, innovation, collaboration, inclusiveness, and mutual benefit, ASIASIM is committed to advancing simulation technology innovation and cooperation across Asia and beyond, while promoting talent development, standardization, and deeper integration among industry, academia, research, and application sectors.

This visit was a key activity of the 2026 ASIASIM Digital-Intelligent Simulation International Collaboration and Industrial Empowerment Innovation Initiative. Across Thailand and Bangladesh, the delegation engaged with diverse stakeholders, including universities, academic organizations, research institutions, and industry enterprises. The delegation introduced ASIASIM and its flagship initiatives, including the Global Simulation Conference (GloSim), International Summer School, and the International Journal of Modeling, Simulation, and Scientific Computing (IJMSSC), promoting greater awareness of the value and applications of simulation technology. During the visit, the delegation also gained deeper insights into the current development status and needs of digital-intelligent simulation in Southeast and South Asia. The exchanges expanded cooperation channels, strengthened mutual trust among peers, and established a foundation for future collaboration in academic exchange, talent cultivation, and industrial cooperation. These efforts further accelerated the development of regional cooperation networks and enhanced ASIASIM’s influence in Southeast and South Asia.

Looking ahead, ASIASIM will continue to leverage its role as an international cooperation platform, strengthening academic exchange, research collaboration, and industrial partnerships with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. By leveraging simulation technology as a driving force, ASIASIM aims to unite regional innovation efforts and contribute continuously to global advances in simulation science, technological innovation, and industrial development.
